Warrior Class - Tank and Spank

A Warrior is a versatile master of the melee battle. Either operating as a tank or as a heavy damage dealer, the Warrior, with his plate gear is not to be messed with. The Warrior’s abilities can be used with the use of Rage, which he generates by taking damage, dealing damage with his normal attacks, and by several talents and abilities.

A warrior has 3 stances; the Battle Stance which is their normal stance, the Defensive Stance which reduces damage taken by 10%, increases their threat by 10% but also reduces the damage done by 10%, and the Berserker Stance which increases the Warriors critical strike rating by 3% but also increases the damage done to them by 10%. Each stance has its own purpose but we’ll get back on this when we describe the different talent trees the Warrior has.

The Warrior can wear mail armor up to level 40 and can then start wearing plate, next to all the other armors, plate is recommended though. Masters of melee battle as they are, they are capable to wear all the kinds of melee weapons that can be found, as well as shields. The Only race that doesn’t have Warrior in their ranks is the Blood Elf race.

There are 3 types of Warriors
PvP Warrior - Arms

Even though one still would be able to do decent damage in PvE scenarios, this build is mainly meant for PvP purposes. The Berserker or Battle Stance should be used by the Arms Warriors. Next to the Weapon Specializations that become available in this talent tree, the Arms tree will give the Warrior the ability to make Mortal Strikes and use Bladestorms. Mortal Strike has been around since the release of WoW over 4 years ago and is quite famous (and hated by healers) because it is a powerful strike that does a lot of damage and makes the target have 50% less healing done to him. The Mortal strike only comes with a 5.1 sec cooldown if it is improved, making this a real killer attack. Bladestorm has only become available since WotLK and it allows the Warrior to make a Whirlwind every second in a row for 6 seconds, doing massive damage to all around him while he can still move.

DPS Warrior

The Fury build allows the Warrior to equip two two-handed weapons. Being the only character able to do this, you can imagine not only how cool it looks but also how the damage output of a DPS Warrior can be. The Berserker or Battle Stance should be used for Fury Warriors. Next to the ability to wield two two-handers, this tree also has many other nice features. Among them is the ability to go into a Rampage, increasing the critical strike rating of all party & group members by 5%, and the ability Blood Thirst, which is a powerful instant attack that can be used every 5 seconds and even restores 8% of the Warrior’s health!

Tanking Warrior – Protection

By far the most popular Warriors in WoW, especially by those that don’t play one themselves, is the protection Warrior. By many, including me, thought of to be the best tank one can have, the Warrior truly can take a beating. Using the Protection tree, the Prot Warrior can use very effective threat abilities. Among them are Shieldslam, Devastate (which is an improved Sunder that deals extra damage), and Shockwave which stuns and deals a good amount of damage to all enemies in front of the Warrior. The Defensive stance should be activated when tanking and a Shield of course, is also necessary.
