Mage class - In control of the crowd and elements

Omg I got pwned! That’s what you may say if you come across a skilled Mage player. A damage dealer like a Mage can easily win any duel or an arena battle and also manage to keep the first place on the dps meter while in a raid. When it comes to crowd control, a Mage is simply the best weapon in most situations. He can easily find his way around multiple mobs. It is all about the movement and the right timing when it comes to the crowd control. A Mage doesn’t have much hp but when it comes to spellpower, crit and hit he has to be the best since his good play is depended on it. When one chooses a Mage as a preferred class, he can choose to be either Human, Gnome, Draenei, Undead, Troll or a Blood Elf which makes the Mage class even more popular since you have a variety of races to choose from.

When it comes to the talents, a Mage has three talent trees: Arcane, Fire and Frost. During time and regarding expansions Mage’s popular builds have changed. While before The Burning Crusade, a popular Mage build was frost, then with the expansion released it became Fire or Arcane/Fire. Now, with the release of Wrath of the Lich King Mage’s builds became a bit more hybrid and Arcane based.
If you choose to level up by going more instances and questing frost is the right choice, while for pure single target dps fire is always the best choice. Both combined with arcane can bring the best out of your Mage build. A pvp mage usually goes for instant spells and more spell power since the best chance a mage can win in pvp is by making a head start with an instant damaging spell such as instant Pyroblast which, if crits could cause lethal damage to the opponent. On the other hand, as a frost mage, you have the ability to summon a Water Elemental that fights by your side and this as well is proven to be very useful in pvp.

When it comes to choosing the best race if you want to become a mage, a Gnome could be the best choice if you are an Alliance player. With the passive ability of 5% more intellect and escape artist ability, A Gnome can really be the most useful Mage. When it comes to the Horde side, a good choice could be a Troll because of his faster regeneration and the ability to increase the casting speed. A Blood Elf could also be a good choice since this race has the ability to silence and steal mana.

When it comes to the professions you should choose what you like. Mages are usually Tailors and Enchanters because they wear cloth, but you can also run into a Mage that is a successful Engineer or a Jewelcrafter. The important thing for a mage, as well as for any other dpser is to have the First Aid leveled up to the maximum, since as a mage you don’t have any ability to heal yourself and bandages could come very useful in dangerous situations.
