Death Knight is the hero class that was introduced to us with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. This class differs in many things from all other classes. To start with, to create a Death Knight one must have a level 55 and above character on any realm. Upon creation, your DK will start his/her journey in Acherus - The Ebon Hold in the eastern part of the Eastern Plaguelands area.
Your character will start as a level 55 full green geared hero, with 20 silver and four 12 slot bags equipped. You will also have some spells and skills ready to be used. First quest “In service of the Lich King” will be given to you by the almighty Lich King and from there on your leveling journey as a DK will begin.
A Death Knight is basically a necromancer and as no other class he uses runic power for his spells and skills. “The Emblazoned Runeblade” is the second quest that you will get, which will grant you a Runeforging skill upon its completition. This skill allows a DK to engrave runes on his weapon. Similar to enchants, runes give a Death Knight’s weapon certain powers. “The Endless Hunger” is the next quest which will teach you how to use your skills with rune abilities in combat.
When it comes to the game play, DK is a hybrid class, based on melee he can dps and tank similar to a Warrior. Death Knights wear plate and if they choose to tank they tank similar to druids, without a shield. Their tanking abilities are based on a high parry chance and good armor. They can use two-handed weapons.
A Death Knight has 3 talent trees: Blood, Frost and Unholy.

Blood
Blood talents enhance the Death Knight's melee abilities and will improve his damage. Special abilities of the Blood tree are only available with the use of the Blood Runes. Blood spec will also provide healing to party/raid members. What’s also nice when it comes to Blood spec are a few very useful buffs that the DK can cast on other members of his party, i.e. Mark of Blood and Hysteria.
Frost
Frost spec will enhance DK’s melee abilities and will increase the damage done on the single target. To gain its special abilities a DK needs to use the Frost Runes. This is a good spec if you want to be a tank since it will give you a few very strong direct damage skills like Howling Blast and Frost Strike, which will help you hold the aggro. With a frost build a DK will enhance his party with haste aka attack speed and resistances to spells.
Unholy
Unholy talent tree gives the Death Knight more effective DOTs aka Damage Over Time and diseases. This talent build makes a DK more effective AOE dpser. With this build a Death Knight will be able to have extra diseases, a ghoul as a permanent pet and a guardian gargoyle. Party/raid members will be boosted with the Unholy Aura which will speed up their movement by 15%.
