Story

Being chased by the Burning Legion, the Draenei travelled the space and had to leave several planets they had settled themselves on. Guided by the Naaru, a race of energy-like beings, they learned that there were other races out there that were willing to stand ground against the Burning Legion.

With the release of the The Burning Crrusade, the Draenei race entered Azeroth. Their spaceship called The Exodar, actually a part of their former keep, got sabotaged by Blood Elves and they had to make an emergency landing on the Azuremyst Isles. After gathering all the wounded and all the gear that was scattered around their now main capital, The Exodar, they found their way to Darkshore, where they got in contact with the Night Elves.

The Draenei once waged war with the Orcs, it was a setup made by one of the leaders of the Burning Legion. The Draenei never forgot about this, hence they joined the Alliance that is not only an enemy of the Burning Legion, but of the Orcs and the Blood Elves as well.

As a Draenei, you will start your adventure on the Azuremyst Isles. You will level up to level 20 on these islands and could then set foot on the mainland of Kalimdor or The Eastern Kingdom to continue your journey.

Character Classes

The Draenei faction is called The Exodar.
The Draenei have the following classes filling up the ranks:

Advantages of becoming Draenei

One of the great abilities of a Draenei, which you especially find handy during the leveling is The Gift of the Naaru. The Gift of the Naaru comes with a 3 min cool down but it is a nice heal-over-time (HOT) spell that could save you in difficult situations. The amount healed by the Gift of the Naaru increases with each level you gain.

The Draenei also make excellent Jewelcrafters because of their Gemcutting racial ability which boosts their Jewelcrafting with 5 points.

Next to the boost to the Jewelcrafting and the ability to heal themselves or others, they also have a passive group buff, called Heroic Presence, which gives a 1% chance to hit with spells and attacks to each player and their pets in the group. On top of all they also have Shadow Resistance which reduces the chance a Draenei will be hit by Shadow spells or effects by 2%.

Conclusion

It is always nice to have a Draenei in the group when you go to some dungeon because of the Heroic Presence on top of their class specific abilities. Good use of Gift of The Naaru, even though it isn’t that powerful at higher levels, can also mean the difference between a wiping party and a successful party.
